No more pencils no more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks yeah
By early June students of all ages will be completing the school year, with many looking forward to the milestone of their #graduation2020.
A time to celebrate with family and friends.
A time to set new goals for further education or for their careers.
A time to get together and enjoy the company of one another, but wait!
This is 2020, the Class of the Covid-19 Virus.
Graduation ceremonies as we know them will not exist.
Students and their families have been quarantined with a stay at home order for almost 2 months now and while the excitement of graduation exists, the celebrations will look very different.
Getting a diploma in the mail is just not the same but that doesn’t mean we can’t get creative and have some fun by designing our own custom t-shirts.
Remove the negative and add the POSITIVE!
Here are some of the most popular graduation songs
Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
The name of the song tells you all you need to know. The song is about believing in yourself and not giving up on your dreams, no matter how hard the road gets. Your new journey after graduation will test your limits and patience many times, but the key is to remain persistent and keep going until you’ve reached your goals.
The Lyrics: “Working hard to get my fill/ Everybody wants a thrill/ Some will win, some will lose/ Some were born to sing the blues”/ Payin’ anything to roll the dice/ Just one more time/ / Oh, the movie never ends/ It goes on and on and on and on.
“(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes
Nobody puts a graduate in the corner! It’s time to celebrate all the amazing times you’ve had with all your friends while jamming out on the dance floor to this classic!
The lyrics: “I’ve had the time of my life / No I never felt this way before / Yes I swear it’s the truth / And I owe it all to you”
“Hero” by Mariah Carey
Believe it or not, there’s a hero inside each and every one of us who totally has everything it takes to take on the adult world and all the challenges it has in store.
The lyrics: “There’s a hero / If you look inside your heart / You don’t have to be afraid / Of what you are / There’s an answer / If you reach into your soul / And the sorrow that you know / Will melt away”
When Social Distancing is the new norm.
Virtual video calls like with Zoom might be the new un-norm for graduation? I can’t unsee the image of graduates throwing their caps up in the air from their bedroom or maybe the kitchen.
The power of distraction might also lessen the disappointment students and their families might be feeling at this time.
So students and families whether you are graduation kindergarten or your senior year of college, stand united and make 2020 your graduation to remember,
And most of all stay safe!
